When the infra red sensors are malfunctioning usually one of the sensor lights will be blinking.

If the path between the sensors is unbroken the door will open and close normally. The transmitters remotes will not work to close the garage door. Close the door to check whether it remains open an indication that the sensors are functioning well. Garage door sensors work using an infrared beam of light.

The good news is a yellow light is your garage door sensor s descending line. Yellow light instead of red. This is a nice feature because if the light is blinking then you know you have power going to the receiving sensor all you have to do is align them. Genie garage door openers use a green light for the sending sensor and a red light for the receiving sensor.
